The training of the analyst in the digital age

reflections on lack and the time of the unconscious

Abstract

This article examines how the training of the analyst is transformed by the contemporary logic marked by acceleration, hyperconnectivity and the intolerance toward lack. It analyzes how the logical time of psychoanalysis, introduced by Freud and developed by Lacan, clashes with the accelerated tempo of digital culture. It shows that analytic training requires working through slowness, elaboration and internal experience, while the present era promotes speed, efficiency and immediate responses. It also discusses how the experience of lack, fundamental to desire and to the analytic position, is threatened by a culture of excess that aims to eliminate emptiness and sustain continuous satisfaction. In addition, it analyzes the analyst’s desire in the digital age, emphasizing the ethical challenge of resisting the imperative of hyperresponsiveness and maintaining silence as a clinical operation. It concludes that training analysts today requires preserving the ethical foundations of psychoanalysis and creating spaces of resistance within the dominant logic, enabling speech, desire and time to emerge.
